I have to admit, I have been playing a lot of Factorio lately - with the world grinding to a halt after Christmas there hasn't been a huge amount to do in my free time - sound familiar? Luckily, the team from Factorio are once again pumping our game updates that is keeping things interesting. Vanilla Factorio is good, but what is better, that's right, modded Factorio! I'll be outlining a few my favourite Factorio mods and including links for you to do download them.

Space Exploration

Elon is going to space, so why can't we! Space Exploration is a great mod and I would highly recommend including it in your shortlist. The new worlds and civilisations really spruce up the game if you are a long time player, and easter eggs, puzzles and secrets await those who install. This mod does have some limitations, it doesn't play nicely with other mods and you may have issues installing and running it if you already have a heavily modded server.

Factory Planner

I'm a bit of a perfectionist - even the smallest error bugs me. If you can relate then Factory Planer is a must have. This mod allows you to plan your production in advance - it does this through a clean user interface and allows you to specify everything from recipes, machines and modules to help improve your workflow. This plugin is extremely useful when you have limited resources to work with; you can accurately plan out and calculate your exact requirements - it's a huge help on our Factorio server.

Plutonium Energy

This one may be a given - Plutonium Energy adds a Plutonium to the material list and you can use it to make nuclear fuel. This fuel has double the energy of Uranium meaning you have to produce less of it, and the reactors are smaller. Obviously this energy generation also comes with the added benefit of increased destructive power - this mods adds Plutonium ammo, canon shells, bullets and bombs, all of which are 140% as powerful as their Uranium counterparts.

Misanthrope

I think we can all admit, the AI in Factorio could use with some more dev time - it is good, but it could be better. Until the Factorio team get round to building this feature I would recommend those of you who like a challenge to install Misanthrope. The mod vastly improves the AI behaviour and makes the game that bit more challenging. It adds the ability for biters to analyse your defences and specifically target weaker locations and really makes you up your game.

Mobile Factory

Our final pick is a bit out there, it's Mobile Factory. I think you can tell from the name what this mod is going to do. It's a completely different way of playing Factorio, you can simply setup a Mobile Factory and anything built within the base can be moved around the world. Taking your base with you while you fight. mine and explore really is a weird experience to begin with but I've got to say, I came round to this mod pretty quickly.
